Elite Player Development by Dunedin Stirling Soccer Academy

The Academy offers elite players training by some of the most experienced and effective trainers in the area. The Academy program utilizes our training staff's skills in a comprehensive "total" approach to soccer development. Training covers all aspects of the game, from fitness and mental training to individual as well as team training. While other training programs cover individual areas of the game of soccer, players in The Academy receive cohesive training which combines these individual elements to create the "Total" player.

Under the guidance of Don Tobin, Director of Coaching, the Academy is designed to identify and develop players for college and professional level. We believe there must be an environment where elite players are able to be provided with the best coaching from the best licensed coaches. Some of our coaching staff are not only licensed but they are former professional players. Coach Tim Fredere has been under Don Tobin training for two years, he has been certified to be Academy coach under Tobin's School of Soccer Science by Don Tobin.

”WE HAVE BEEN IN THE TRENCHES”

The games future, from a domestic point of view as well as from the perspective of successful professional teams depends upon ensuring that the best young players are given every opportunity to fulfill their talent and potential. We believe that young gifted players have been exposed to excessive competitive soccer and to not enough practice time. Elite young players require a development process to protect and nurture their special talents. Our academy will ensure the best practice in terms of the coaching and education received by young players. We believe that in the future, all elite competitive clubs must have academies. In the past, youth structures at clubs were fragmented and inconsistent. The academy will implement the structures to ensure that our players have access to the highest standards of coaching and education and that we start to produce players of the highest caliber. Our academy will focus on continuous psychological improvement. The following will be used as tools to increase effectiveness in pressure situations and daily play:

  • Motivation
  • Self Confidence
  • Discipline
  • Personal awareness

The integration of these components allows every student to realize their highest potential. We will produce dynamic individuals who will be an asset to any team, regardless of the system or style or play.

Measured Success

The Academy has been a huge success - not just by winning and losing and goals for and goals against record, it was their great attitude and the way the kids adapted to training three nights per week. They took on board the information and replicated what they had been taught on game day. We measured the players on the following factors:

  • Not letting anybody outwork us – effort, determination and courage
  • Playing tight – meaning playing unselfishly, trusting your team-mates and doing everything possible not to let them down
  • Playing smart – meaning with good execution and poise.

We felt that if we did these things we would be successful and we were. The commitment by all players was outstanding. They were receptive to all of the information and they all took the time to complete their soccer homework. We as Coaches feel that a good Coach will always be searching for new ideas – the involvement with the Academy is therefore also improving our Coaches.

If you feel that you are a “Student of the Game”, have the skills, commitment, dedication and the hunger to work hard and improve.

The Academy is a collaboration between Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club and Tobin's School of Soccer Science. This unique partnership allows us to offer the highest levels of training and competition in a new and innovative atmosphere. The aims of the Academy are:
